ArtRage+iPad Painting Progress

An ArtRage Painting Slowly Evolving

Here’s current progress of an ArtRage painting I’ve been working on for my friend Elizabeth. She fell in love with the new Diet Coke commercials abroad and asked if I could paint one of the ads for her. I’ve been working on it in my spare time—which hasn’t been often. I’m hoping to get the painting finished by the end of next week. Once I get a large project out for a client, it’s going to be a focus for me. She’s been really patient:)

Recording Progress

While I work on my iPad with ArtRage, I save my progress periodically in my camera roll. Here are a few of the images that show the stages of painting in ArtRage. I also turn the ‘Script’ on for every painting. With ‘Script’ enabled, you are able to save the script file and run it on your desktop version of ArtRage. You can play back your painting stroke by stroke and resize it to any size that you want—pretty impressive. I’ve tried my scripts out and have had mixed reactions. It’s cool to see your image repainted in front of your eyes, but the technology isn’t there yet for the quality. Overall, it’s pretty good. I find the ‘Pen’ tool to have the most disappointing results. This sucks because it’s one of my favorite tools.

When I have the painting finished, I’ll post it.

  1. Awesome work so far. Can’t wait to see the end result. How do you paint the gold on the coat? I see you start with yellow but then what do you do?

    1. Hi there. Thanks for the positive feedback. I work mostly with the oil paint brush and the palette knife. The knife is great for blending and the brush does a great job applying the paint. The trick to the gold is to adjust the loading and thinner settings to give you the amount of blend. You get better blending with the underneath color if you turn the loading don’t a little. More thinner will make the color that you are applying more transparent, but it also can take away the paint texture—thinning out the paint. Let me know if that helps!
